The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

Ahhh, its been too long, almost a week since my last post! I haven't been hiding, I just didn't have Internet these past few days. But now that I'm back, I'm here to stay! Also, very determined to review and inform post-worthy information about YA books!

Title: The Summoning
Book #: 1st Darkest Powers Series
Author: Kelley Armstrong
Pages: 390

Publisher: Harper Teen
Tags: Supernatural, Group Homes, Ghost, Spirits, Mysterious Powers
Age Group: 12 & up

Overall Rating:

"She sees dead people and they see her."

Synopsis: Chloe Saunders sees dead people. Yes, like in the films. The problem is, in real life saying you see ghosts gets you a one-way ticket to the psych ward. And at 15, all Chloe wants to do is fit in at school and maybe get a boy to notice her. But when a particularly violent ghost haunts her, she gets noticed for all the wrong reasons. Her seemingly crazed behavior earns her a trip to Lyle House, a centre for 'disturbed teens'. At first Chloe is determined to keep her head down. But then her room mate disappears after confessing she has a poltergeist, and some of the other patients also seem to be manifesting paranormal behavior. Could that be a coincidence? Or is Lyle House not quite what it seems...? Chloe realizes that if she doesn't uncover the truth, she could be destined for a lifetime in a psychiatric hospital. Or could her fate be even worse...? Can she trust her fellow students, and does she dare reveal her dark secret?

Kelley Armstrong brings us a book full of trill, mystery, supernatural powers, suspense, and long hours of enjoyment! The plot of this book is very special. Chloe is a girl who wanted to make friends, meet Mr. Right, and have a normal life. But, after a few incidents on her way to school her destiny changes completely, after seeing her first ghost. This leading her to moving to a group home called the Lyle House, a place for unstable teens.

From page to page the suspense grew deeper and the plot started to come together, after she met the people at the Lyle House Derek, Simon, Tori, Liz, Rae ect. Each person with a different character traits and metal issues. Surprisingly, Derek hurts Chloe by forcing her to fall clear across the room. Chloe then discovers something mysterious about Derek and his brother Simon. Chloe becomes friends with Liz, but she mysteriously gets transfered to a different home. After some friend troubles with Tori, Chloe gets looked in a closet were she discovers long, hiding secrets about the Lyle House. These secrets being deadly, and highly dangerous, which causes the bunch to plot their escape. Will they make it?

From beginning to end this book is unbelievably amazing! It was so hard to put it down to go do chores, classes, ect. The writing was excellent and couldn't be better. Characters were beautifully developed and created appealing to the reader. Everything, except boring. I can't put into words how interesting and engaging this book is. Let me get my point across its a MUST read!
