Adult Book Reviews in YA Blogs? (Opinions Needed)

I've been contemplating the idea of reviewing some adult titles in this blog for the longest time. What's keeping me is what the reaction might be like. When I say adult titles I mean books like Dear John, The Last Song, The Lonely Bones, etc. Books that have gotten a lot of attention, and are appropriate for teens to read. I've seen that some YA bloggers refuse to review adult titles, but others are open to it. What matters most to me is what the readers think. This will still be a YA reviewing site, with some rare adult books. How does this sound?

My other question is, Do you like reading reviews of books that have already received a lot of attention and reviews? I feel like I'm reading books that other people have already raved about, so does it ever bother you? Lastly, Does it bother you when YA blogs review adult titles?

I say go for it. I'm not a teen though and I review both YA and adult books on my blog.

I think as long as you're honest about the genre of the book and maybe state if it has rated R material or not.

Your readers will decide if they want to read that review or not.

As for titles that have been out or gotten lots of hype? That's up to you. If it's a blogger I have lots of books in common with then I rely on them recommending me good books.

Me, personally, I usually just do a mini review for those kinds of books. :)

Hope that helps!

I see nothing wrong with you reviewing the types of books you mentioned! I know lots of teens read those. I would love to see review them.

Personally, I think it's absolutely fine if you review some adult titles as well! :)

i don't mind adult reviews, as long as it still kind of pertains/appeals to YA, I would read them!

I think it's important to put some titles on the blog that aren't ya... i mean, it shows that there are some books that are meant to be read by everyone. wouldnt it be a shame if an adult book blog didnt even ever mention harry potter, etc? you know what im saying. i think you should do it 100%... as long as it's not every post people can just skip over those. when you do it say genre: adult fiction

I think you should go for it! Personally I prefer it when a blog has a variety of books the blogger reviews,a nd if you feel like reading about talking about books different than your usual choices, do it! You could make some of your readers discover books they haven't considered but after your review are curious to check it out.

If you like to read those books, go for it! I guess no matter what is the majority topic in your blog, you can talk about any minority. If you feel comfortable, go ahead. It's your blog and you write what you like! ;)

I like doing it! There are some popular books that I don't like as much as other people, or things that got poor reviews that I seem to love. And besides, if you read a book, why not review it?

I feel like I'm reading books that other people have already raved about, so does it ever bother you?
Not really. If it was raved about, obviously it deserves to be read. If we read books that nobody else read nobody would ever read the same thing and publicity for everything would suck! XD

Lastly, Does it bother you when YA blogs review adult titles?
Nope. Maybe it's 'cause I'm a teen who reads both YA and A fiction, and blog about adult fiction when it's suitable for both. (For instance, I blogged about Anne McCaffrey's series, but you won't ever see one of my favorite fantasy series, The Wheel of Time, on there - it's too, er, thick? for YA.) But I like seeing both on there.

I think you should read and review what you feel like doing. It will always displease some and please others. Adults book are great, think about people who don´t follow your blog cause you only review YA. You´re a "Book Shopaholic" not a "YA Book Reviewer", so I think you should review everything of any genres. Books that has too much attentions isn´t a problem since there will always be someone that missed the rush and would be please to read about that book, and not about the fame of it. Besides, YA reader should adventure on other lits, as well adult readers should adventure into YA, you review all genres would help that :)

Absolutely you should. I prefer blogs that have variety, as your reader I will chose what to read and comment on.

It doesn't matter to me if it is a popular book, I want to know your thoughts on it, I don't get tired of reading reviews everyone has a special touch to add to their review.

Many ages read YA so the young adults can choose to read some Adult books.

Good luck

Absolutely. I love hearing about what folks are ready regardless of the genre. And I enjoy the different perspectives on the same book, so add your voice to the mix!

Ya, I think it's defiantly ok to read and review some adult titles on your YA blog that is ok for teenagers to read. There is no problem with that. You should do whatever makes you comfy with your blog that you feel is ok with.

Every person has their own take on a book. I've noticed that I often pick up something in a review that no one else has mentioned.
That said, if a book has already been declared the best or worst by just about everyone, spend you time bringing a less well known book to everyone's attention.

I review YA and middle grade on my blog. If I come upon an adult review on a blog, I just ignore it.

Personally, I don't mind reading a few adult books on YA blogs, as long as it's clearly specified as such. Since you were saying that the book content would still be appropriate for teens, I support it even more wholeheartedly. I just like knowing when the content is more adult in nature.
As for your question about reviewing popular books, it could go both ways. As your readers, we trust and value your opinion, but it's also nice to hear about lesser known books instead of the same old, same old.

I do it sometimes. YA readers don't just read YA, myself included. So I like to highlight some of the adult books I'm reading. I don't give a full review but I talk about what about them would appeal to a YA audience.
